I upgraded from Office 13 to 16 this morning, and Outlook will not run. It hangs for about 45 minutes before telling me that it can't find the exchange server. I can't even manually set up my email account via control panel. We understand how you feel about the situation. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused.

What type of email account is configured in Outlook? Is it a Microsoft Exchange Server account? You may refer to the following article on for instructions on how to create a new Outlook profile. Note: Ensure that you select the new profile under Always use this profile for Outlook to start in the new profile. Hope it helps. Try the suggestion and let us know the result at your earliest convenience.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. I had the same problem and tried many things, even following tips for Outlook hanging on loading profile.

It occurred to me that if it was stuck on loading a profile, I thought I would just delete all the profiles and start over.

Then deleted all the profiles. Started Outlook and it prompted to create a new profile. Entered my Exchange credential and Outlook started up. Just to confirm no issues, I exited out of Outlook and restarted. It worked. So I can't say for sure if just deleting the profile from Control Panel will work. If it doesn't you may need to delete the profile in the Registry. One thing I noticed was that there was a I deleted that as well when I was trying a bunch of things.

I'm afraid that doesn't work.

I can't create a new profile, because when I follow the instructions set out above and test the settings, I can't log in, and get a "The server cannot be found error. I cannot check the properties of my existing profile because the Mail setup dialog crashes with a "Windows Shell Common dll is not responding" error. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit. I think the problem is with auto-detect. Outlook 16 won't allow manual input of the exchange server settings, and instead relies on the admin to publish them so that Outlook can find them.

I'm waiting to hear back, but I don't think my mail server has published the autodiscover settings. I had had the same problem so I made the new profile. It worked well: using, closing and opening again was fine. Today morning the same problem occured: profile couldn't be loaded and the same message Should I do new profile every morning?

Surely, not I use office business with Microsoft Exchange Server. What should I try? Recreating your profile should only be done as a last resort if all other troubleshooting steps fail. Are you saying that you upgraded to Outlook , couldn't connect, recreated your profile which worked and now you can't connect again? What error behaviour are you seeing?
